Rest as an Entrepreneur

When you're the face of the business (especially as a solopreneur), rest can feel complicated. - We are soo deeply passionate about our work that our minds are a constant buzz of new ideas, growth strategies, content writing and moments to capture. - We are the boss so there is no one telling us to clock out, to go home. - Often we've set ourselves up so the pay cheque only comes when you do the work, there is no salary paying for days off.

When you do choose to rest, does the guilt come along with you?

As a previous life coach for women in business, I often think about the businesses we're building and the lives we're creating alongside them.

Are we building a business that supports our life?

Or a life that supports our business?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Katie, I was just stressing about this yesterday! I had a huge event over this past weekend for 3 days and I have been playing catch up on rest. It takes me time to recover after activities with a lot of people, noise, etc. I have been feeling guilty about it, though, because I haven't been feeling as up to doing some of my business prep work and online classes. I know that there isn't really a rush, but I am also doing this to better life for my family. I think that's where feminine guilt comes in. We as women just seem to feel more responsible for so many things! One thing that was mentioned at my conference, by coach Mary Tabak, was the message of putting our own oxygen masks on before putting on our child's or neighbours. I keep trying to remember that. I cannot pour from an empty (or full but tired lol) cup! 🩷

Seeking Business Insurance Referrals

Hi ladies! πŸ’›

Happy July! I hope you're all doing well and staying safe with this poor air quality.

I have a quick question. One of my clients owns a mobile dental hygiene business and is looking for a reliable business insurance provider. Before I start researching, I thought I'd check here first to see if anyone has someone they'd recommend.

If you've had a great experience with an insurance broker or company, I'd really appreciate any referrals. Thank you so much in advance! 😊

Experimenting

This week we are on holidays and I've challenged myself to be more intentional in this restful curiosity stage. Family vacations aren't often opportunities for rest as we might expect them to be. But what if all of the expectations are removed and presence is all that I ask of myself. My guess is that keeping up to expectations and those 'Instagram moments' is the opposite of feeling rested. I'm ready to embrace the chaos, the memories and joys that summers are made of and see if I come home more rested. πŸ˜† Wish me luck! Have you found a secret to creating restful family vacations??

Reflections Of Rest

Rest has shown up in many forms throughout my life.

  • I've been called lazy.

  • I've been told I should rest more.

  • I've spent days lounging around trying to recharge but really just checking out.

  • I've spent days pushing through until overwhelm and anxiety took over, the tears starting to flow and I'm forced into rest.

What I've realized is that neither side feels like restful.

REST

There has been a lot of talk of rest in the last couple of weeks in my circles. Going into summer this is often a time where many of us hit pause a little more to be present, soak up the sun and put our feet in the sand. Rest is often seen as unproductive, maybe a luxury, something you will get once you are 'successful', lazy, etc Curious today...what are the messages that you have received (from yourself and others) about rest throughout your life? Have they changed as you get older? Here is a message of rest that I received this week.

Great post Katie! I used to think I was being lazy if I rested and got very frustrated if I got tired. Now I'm much better at listening to my body and resting when I need to and following my bodies' natural rhythms (and it's always a work in progress!) πŸ™‚

My friend Ruby who is an SMS Marketing Expert helped me get some tech stuff set up for my biz to introduce my new "Ripple Text Club". Sometimes it's these types of tasks that I avoid because it feels overwhelming. πŸ™ƒ Although she hasn't launched her biz yet, it's something she's working on. I look forward to connecting her to the She Rises Community when she's ready. πŸ’œ

It's HERE!

I just officially announced this a few minutes ago and tickets are flying..only 3 left at the time I'm hitting 'publish' so don't wait!! https://www.sherisesbykatie.com/event-details/rise-day What started as a vision of bringing women together to work side by side, stay accountable, and support one another has evolved into so much more.

As many of you joked on Tuesday, our "Coworking Days" are anything but coworking days. They're days filled with learning, connection, support, laughter, vulnerability, and growth. They're a chance to step away from the day-to-day, be surrounded by incredible women, and leave feeling inspired, supported, and ready to take your next big step.

Because these gatherings have grown into something far beyond coworking, it's time for a name that better reflects the experience.
